Tune in LIVE for my videomxshow-
Spinthesis
www.massivegroove.com
Saturdays 1pm-3pm ET
-----------------------------------------------------
I've been spinning for awhile now. It all started
when I pause/edited mixtapes for my aerobics
class in the 80's (can you say wikki wikki?)
I've DJ'd raves, lounges, basements, forests
radio, internet, clubs, coffeehouses, rooftops,
art exhibits, etc! I love to build my performance
based on the situation, to make its sound unique
and special. Collecting records, all kinds, is my
passion! I had a radio show called
"These Technotic Times" for several years at
WTSR The College of New Jersey
(and an Internet version of the same name
for a bit), and did an online & email zine for
a couple of years called,
"The Technotic Times." The archives of it and
the many, many reviews are online at
www.technotica.com
I was also a participant in the
2001 Red Bull Music Academy.
............................................................
I love the vibe music can create - one moment,
you are sitting there feeling kinda, well, blah.
And then, there's some music, and all the
empty spaces seem to magically fill up!
I have a need to share this great music I find
- a Joy! And, presenting it in a way that
creates a new experience in someones mind,
that touches their soul and has the
power/potential to change them forever is
an awesome feeling that I will never
get enough of.

Spinthesis - Saturdays from 1pm-3pm on massivegroove.com -
(New York Time)...audio video mixshow... a multi sensory, electronic fun house of Techno, Electro, Old School, IDM, House, Breaks, and beyond... with your hosts Restless Rob & Dj Linda Leigh
(posted August) I will soon have new stuff to put here (just had my sinuses taken care of by a great Doc and now I can hear again, whooopeee!!)
In the meantime....I found this little piece of history and now, thru the magic of a tape converter, I can let you have it....omg....ok, I got a crappy demo tape with my Walkman so I taped the record hole and retaped a mix over it, also using my new, used, very confusing gemini sampler....I think the year may be like 92 or 93 on this...I have no idea. It's a deep, dark, evil (babies crying?!?!), slightly muddled, but well trippy ravey acid like 5:45 am, the place, and yer head, is full of fog and you're just trying to make it till that sunrise house set that'll wake you back up type of thing.
The 9th annual WKDU Electronic Music Marathon (EMM) at Drexel University went beautifully! There were amazing sets all around from such of variety of Djs and styles! It was great fun Next year is the 10th, and I have a very special surprise in mind for then. athe charity chosen for 2006 was Strings for Schools, an organization that gets music programs back into our schools!!!
Here's my set - on a lovely crisp October Sunday afternoon --
It's the Minimal Techno baaaa-beeee!!!!
yeah This set went great! I think it REALLY helped to have my son & husband playing Super Mario Bros on an ancient NES behind me (they set up the turntables/mixer in the stations inner lobby area) heehee
I was cleaning up my studio, and found this minidisc from 2004. It's my set from the 2004 WKDU Drexel Radio Electronic Music Marathon. The tracks are excellent - Hey, Tension, Arc, Subhead, Plong, Reel, Trapez....My son had the flu that week and I didn't have time to gather a set for my Sat 12mn slot, but, his fever was going down and my family really wanted me to go to the station...so I grabbed a bunch of Techno records and zipped into the city, played and zipped home, happily to find my son sleeping soundly and well. The set turned out pretty good, I wanted to edit it a bit or re-spin it, but, hey, it's live under stress
Hey all - Thanks so much for your support! Watch out for news regarding a special Halloween surprise, and when you can catch me spinning on the annual WKDU Electronic Music Marathon!
This mix was episode 12 of our Internet show. The theme is Hardcore Techno - all with a fun, amusing, or silly edge to them - as opposed to stuff that's on the 'Death by Gabber' mix
You'll hear the whole show - which does have a break an hour in (yes, another 2 hour episdoe) at the end of "Break on..." and it all starts up nicely again - and includes just enuf narrative to be historically informative
Oh yeah - and if anyone can interpret what the guys are singing about 25 min into the second part (so, about 80-85 min in total) please lemme know -is it a drinking song, what?
btw...this mix incorporates much of the music heard on "Principles of Neural Science - Diagnosis & Treatment" that was available for a limited time - but less rough this time around ;>
ElectroFriedBreaks was episode #33 (102599) of our net show, These Technotic Times, thru Collegemusic.com. It is chock full-o-goodness and ranges in breaky flavors from full out rockin to tripped-out jazzy psychedelia. Yes, it is 2 hours long...Yikes!
I'll be re-starting my net-casting soon on a regular basis ----Hey! Lemme know how often and about how long you'd ideally like the episodes Thanks!
Death by Gabber - a Yahoo N.E. Raves Net Party set mutation is a Very SONIC experience. Don't even attemt to listen or download this unless you truly understand this - you have been warned ;-> This is a re-creation of the set I spun in Rochester NY at a very cool club called The Roxy. The scene was awe inspiring, with giant gargolyes and dragons mounted and painted on the massive backdrop of this old and opulent movie house. Our trip there was terrifying...we took a PROP plane out of Newark, NJ to Rochester - there was Much turbulance. A lady sitting in the seats across the aisle from us had a cat in a carrier with her that they had advised her to place in the aisle for the time being...the cat was terrifyed and kept throwing up and howling...jeeeze...then I started feeling a bit odd after we landed. We checked into our Hotel and got ready for the trip to the place. I spun this, it was awesome fun, and the rest of the party was amazing as well - Lonnie Fisher, Eddie Twizzler, Skinner, Dr. Jesus ...wow. So the next day, we get our flight, no problems this time, i feel even weirder tho - we get to Newark, drive to Ewing to The College of New Jersey for our Sunday night broadcast (9pm-12mn) of These Technotic Times. We do the show, and I realize I'm sick - 102 fever...Yahoo!
This is part 2 of the very first show we provided for Netcast in 1997. Netcast had a very impressive start as being one of the first muti-casters for the Internet. We were brought aboard to provide electronic music shows each month on thier Submerge channel. This episode was a tribute the to Tresor sound & club in Germany
Strong and Deep was recorded 1/1/97 - it is an excerpt from a Full Moon episode of the T.Y.M.E. Project (Techno Till Your Mind Explodes) on WTSR 91.3 fm (College of New Jersey)------It is a deathly hypnotic acid spiral of turbulent emotion and dark energy.
This is from a tape I handed out in '97 called "Good Stuff - Lounge Like Vol 3" This is side B "Lounge Like"
It's lounge, chill, idm, trip hop, ambient, experimental, downtempo, spacey, cool and hip ;->
The other side was "Maxin 'n Relaxin" (searching for another copy 2 post
This performance happened July 6, 2001 at the Killtime Warehouse on Lancaster Ave in Philly - the party was given by 215Noise & featured Hrvatski !!!! Also - 233 project, nodal vs. dev 79, joe scott vs the black oil, rory j, dj2bnl, instruction shuttle, moblin, major taylor
It was a brilliant night with fine sounds all around. I played in a big
walled in broken down courtyard in the middle of an urban area...there was a bonfire...and a fire-eater. 4 sound sources. Ambient, IDM, Spoken Word, cartoon samples, and other oddities pepper this fascinating and off-kilter mix
This mix was recorded at the 2003 WKDU Electronic Music Marathon - it's an annual event at the Drexel University radio station to raise money for good causes - usually local arts. I wanted a special mix for this one, so I collected a bunch of 7"rs and arranged them semi-thematically/harmonically. enjoy!
I love this mix - it's from about a year ago - recorded at a Philly tradition - Hang Free has been going on 10 years in the park, listening to music & hanging with friends, bar-b-q, dogs, kids, frisbee, vollyball. Much props and respect to Under & Sugarplum Stacy
There's Techno, Dub, Downtempo, IDM, House, etc in this hour long mix...touched with a bit of humor!
